Takaungu House An overview
Sleeps Eight plus 2 or 3 children

Takaungu House started life as a guest house for Charlie's Mum. When I had poured the slab for the roof I realised that it had to go up another story as the view was hard to beat, the house then grew, we built the adjoining cottage (Wishies cottage) for Charlie's Mum and a few years ago we finished off the main house with the Zanzibar style rooms at the top. The house looks out onto its own swimming pool and has generous rooms, ceilings and verandas. Although cooled by the prevailing winds, all bedrooms have standing fans.

The Master bedroom.

The top floor of the house, all 2000 square feet of it, comprises of a vast bedroom, an open and ensuite bathroom and a morning veranda which also has a big Arab bed for an occasional guest or family member so this makes these rooms ideal for parents plus a child. The views from here are truly stunning and the open front makes it the coolest room on the coast!

The Double room.

This room was for many years the master room and is a comfortable double room with its ensuite bathroom. It shares its veranda with the room next door.

Tom's Room.

This double room was built for a younger son and although the Lego has been replaced with Arab or Campaign furniture the ensuite bathroom is definitely built for younger people!

Wishies Cottage.

Built as a separate but self contained Granny flat, this cottage comprises a big double bed and adjoining twin beds in the sitting room area which share a bathroom. The cottage has its own veranda and can easily be utilised as extra accommodation for either of the houses.

  • POWER

Both Houses have mains power (240v) and water. There is a substantial water tank to back up the somewhat erratic mains supply. Mains power cuts are generally short lived and there are plenty of kerosene lanterns as back up. The house water is heated by drift wood boilers, which are lit morning and evening and might take a minute or so to run hot.

  • Wifi Access and Phone Cover

Rather with regret the houses do have Internet, there is WiFi in most areas and there is good mobile phone coverage. The best local cell provider is SAFARICOM and SIM cards can be purchased cheaply locally as can pre-pay scratch cards.

  • Food

Bakari and Selina have years of practice in the preparation of a wide variety of cooking styles. They are happy to cook whatever you want and will help source most items.

  • Laundry Services

Laundry is hand done and air-dried. It will normally be returned the following morning, whereas they will be as careful as they can, please note that the staff cannot be responsible for any damage to items laundered.
